MIB acquires Verpackungstechnik Frielinghaus GmbH in Zuelpich
Wuppertal, December 30, 2020
As part of a planned succession plan, Wuppertal-based MIB Industriebeteiligungen GmbH & Co. KG is acquiring a manufacturer of hollow plastic bodies and packaging. Zuelpicher Verpackungstechnik Frielinghaus GmbH specializes in the sustainable development, production and Europe-wide distribution of extrusion-blown plastic products. As the new shareholder, MIB will support the management of VPT Frielinghaus in the strategic and operational development of the company in the future. The acquisition marks the third corporate investment in 2020.
Further development on a joint basis
With regard to sustainable management, MIB has an important factor in common with Verpackungstechnik Frielinghaus GmbH (VPT), based in Zuelpich, North Rhine-Westphalia, which was acquired on December 30, 2020. This aspect plays a major role in both companies – a reason for which MIB will strategically accompany the packaging manufacturer, founded in 1975, in its further development with immediate effect within a planned succession arrangement. The company, which employs around 55 people, has been convincing the market for decades with its continuous development work in the field of sustainable plastics processing. Depending on the intended use, the packaging variants consist of up to 100 percent recycled HDPE (high-density polyethylene), bio-HDPE or conventional materials such as HDPE and PP (polypropylene).
Sustainability as a growth driver
On the one hand, VPT Frielinghaus focuses on the intensive use of recycled and bio-based plastics – always in consultation with customers. All employees of the packaging technology specialist work daily to create added value for customers. The implementation of their wishes always has top priority – starting with the creation of design proposals, article drawings and prototype production, through product manufacturing according to, among other things, food standard-certified processes with subsequent quality control, to just-in-time delivery. On the other hand, the company, which has been owner-managed to date, is committed to using ever new production technologies as well as packaging forms to save weight, for example, and thus reduce its ecological footprint. “We are convinced that the demand for sustainable packaging made of plastic will continue to increase in the future and that Verpackungstechnik Frielinghaus GmbH will be able to further expand both its expertise and competitive advantages,” says Robert Spartmann, Managing Partner of MIB together with Christoph Borges. “We are happy to provide our support in this regard and look forward to welcoming the employees to our group.”
Change of shareholder: utmost care in preparation
Elke von der Becke will continue to accompany the succession process in her function as the previous managing director of VPT Frielinghaus for a limited time, as Christoph Borges describes. “Right from the start, she attached great importance to giving the necessary time to the preparations for the change of shareholders.” She also took complete care to ensure that the succession arrangement would lead to optimal results for the company, the employees, the clientele and for MIB. “We would like to thank Ms. von der Becke for this and look forward to working together. We are convinced that VPT Frielinghaus is ideally prepared for the future to seize further growth opportunities and to continue under MIB as a new shareholder in the long term.”
